Cabell Huntington Hospital (CHH) has once again been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) following the American College of Radiology’s (ACR) recent review. MRI is a noninvasive medical test that utilizes magnetic fields to produce anatomical images of internal body parts to help physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions.
“The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety,” said Peter Chirico, MD, medical director of the CHH Radiology Department and professor and chair of radiology at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. “It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. We are very proud of this achievement, and we are pleased to add this to our other accreditations from the American College of Radiology.”
Image quality, staff qualifications, equipment, quality control and quality assurance programs are among the areas assessed. CHH currently holds ACR accreditation in nuclear medicine, ultrasound and computed tomography (CT) and mammography.
The ACR, founded in 1924, is a professional medical society serving more than 37,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
